Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the information shown in the comment form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent to help detect spam.
An anonymized hash of your email address may be shared with the Gravatar service to check if you use it. Their privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile image becomes visible to the public alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, avoid including images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors may be able to download and extract this information from images on the site.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience so you do not have to re-enter them the next time you comment. These cookies last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we place a temporary cookie to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is removed when you close your browser.
When you log in, several cookies are created to store your login details and screen display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, and screen option cookies last for one year. Selecting “Remember Me” will extend your login to two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. It stores the post ID of the article you edited and expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content such as videos, images, or articles. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you visited the external website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, add third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with their content, especially if you have an account with them and are logged in.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely. This helps us recognize and approve future comments automatically instead of placing them in moderation.
For users who register on the site, we store the personal information provided in their user profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their own personal information at any time, except for their username. Website administrators can also view and edit this information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on the site or have left comments, you may request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any information you have provided. You may also request that we delete any personal data we hold. This does not include data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security reasons.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be screened through an automated spam detection service.
